Wild Flower Season
The natural phenomenon of flower season along the Cape West Coast in the Western Cape draws thousands of visitors from around the country and from around the world, between August and September each year; but, the wild flowers have been known to bloom as early as July and as late as October, depending on weather conditions.

Postberg Flower Reserve
The reserve is not always available for you to visit. Even though it forms part of the West Coast National Park, this part of it is disturbed as little as possible so that, when spring comes, great swathes of flowers can erupt in virtually every nook and cranny of the reserve and reward everyone for their patience.

West Coast National Park
The park surrounds most of the enormous Langebaan Lagoon, a water sports junkie’s paradise with awesome kayaking, snorkelling and some of the best windsurfing and kite surfing on the planet. In summer, migratory water birds flock in thousands from as far away as northern Eurasia. In the middle of the lagoon is Schaapen Island, a bird sanctuary that is off limits, but you can paddle close to it and watch the garrulous marine birds. The park is a good place for cycling and spotting eland and small animals but the star attraction is the spring wildflower spectacle.

The world’s largest breeding colony of black harriers also occurs in the area. Langebaan is an internationally acclaimed Ramsar Site for its importance as a wetland.
